NAMI St. Louis PRISM Support Group is a free, peer-led group for any adult (18 or older) who identifies as LGBTQ+ and has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others, and the groups are led by trained leaders who’ve been there and are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
NAMI’s support groups are unique because they follow a structured model to ensure you and others in the group have an opportunity to be heard and to get what you need.

- Designed for adults (18+) with mental health conditions (an official diagnosis is not required)
- Identifies as LGBTQ+ or is exploring a new gender or sexual identity

What You’ll Gain:
By sharing your story in a safe, confidential space, you can find affirmation, connection, and renewed hope. This group fosters empathy, meaningful dialogue, and a strong sense of belonging. You'll draw strength from the experiences of others, reclaim your voice, and feel empowered by offering your own story in a space where authenticity is honored and judgment is left at the door.
NAMI St. Louis PRISM will help you:
- Develop coping skills that reflect your lived experiences and personal truth
- Draw strength from others who understand what it means to live authentically in the face of adversity
- Create space where no one’s pain is minimized, and every voice is valued
- Release shame that was never yours to carry and embrace self-acceptance
- Celebrate humor as a form of healing, even in difficult moments
- Acknowledge that not every problem has a clear fix, but healing can still happen
- Understand that mental health struggles often emerge from experiences of exclusion, pressure to conform, or having to fight to be seen—and none of that is your fault
- Understand that gender and sexual identities are part of us and can lead to traumatic experiences

Advocate For Equal Access
NAMI St. Louis supports public policies that reduce mental health inequities for LGBTQ+ populations, like enforcing non-discrimination protections in health care and removing barriers to accessing appropriate mental health care.
Members of the LGBTQ+ community experience mental health conditions at a higher rate than their peers but often cannot access the mental health care they need. All people deserve access to quality mental health care, free from discrimination or interference.
Share Your Story
Write your personal story about LGBTQ+ mental health and submit it to us for the NAMI St. Louis Testimonial.
🌈 Artist Spotlight: Creating with Purpose
We’re proud to highlight Ann Fischer, the artist behind several powerful designs for NAMI St. Louis’ PRISM Support Group. Her work is rooted in both personal experience and professional passion.
She began her career as an art educator supporting students with emotional and behavioral disorders—young people who often felt like they didn’t belong. By shifting to a choice-based art model, she witnessed art’s power to heal, build community, and transform pain into connection.
In 2021, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder following postpartum depression, she turned back to art to find herself again. Creating became her way of processing the world and reclaiming her identity.
Her art is a reflection of love, struggle, and resilience. It speaks to the hope of a world where everyone sees the beauty within themselves. We’re honored to share that vision through her contributions to PRISM.
