What Is Sharing Hope?

NAMI Sharing Hope is designed to introduce discussions on mental health and wellness in the Black/African American community through a three-part community conversation series grounded in sharing sacred stories and guided dialogue on mental wellness and support.

For people in the Black/African Ancestry community, being open about how they’re doing can be a struggle. NAMI Sharing Hope is a free, safe space for conversations on mental health and wellness— because people of Black and African Ancestry around the country deserve supportive and healing spaces to help our communities thrive.

#BlackMentalHealthMatters | #AfricanImmigrantStrong

For those of us in Black/African Ancestry communities, being open about how we’re doing can be a struggle.

There are stereotypes to overcome, pressures to be excellent, and fears of being perceived as vulnerable or spiritually weak.

To compound these challenges, We have been disproportionately impacted by a global pandemic; we are constantly confronted with the trauma of racism and police brutality in the media; and our community continues to be one of the fastest growing but most poorly understood. As a result, we must find better and more accessible ways to start talking about our individual and communal wellness.

1423 Discussion Group

Create space for growth, connection, and brotherhood.

NAMI St. Louis invites you to join the 1432 Discussion Group, a monthly, facilitator-led space held at Jennings Junior High designed for Black men seeking to strengthen their emotional health and relationship skills. This culturally affirming space offers the opportunity to openly discuss life and relationships, explore healthy masculinity, and learn evidence-based tools for emotional regulation, communication, and connection.

Brotherhood in Practice

The 1432 Discussion Group is more than a discussion. It is a brotherhood built on trust, consistency, and shared experience. Men show up for one another, listen without judgment, and grow together over time. Through shared stories, reflection, and accountability, participants form meaningful bonds that reinforce the understanding that no one has to navigate life alone.

Each gathering includes guided discussion, education, and hands-on skill-building exercises designed to help men show up more grounded, intentional, and emotionally present in their relationships, families, and communities.
