TITLE:                                      Program Specialist

STATUS:                                  Full-time

ACCOUNTABLE TO:               Director of Programs

Summary:  The Program Specialist works with the Ending the Silence (ETS) Coordinator, Programs and Volunteer Coordinator, and Director of Programs to provide NAMI St. Louis programs throughout the St. Louis region.  This will include facilitating mental health presentations to students, presenting on mental health topics throughout the community, data collection & entry, recruitment of volunteers, outreach to schools/youth-serving organizations, and involvement in other NAMI St. Lous programming such as support groups, classes, and NAMI on Campus.

Hours: The Program Specialist is a full-time position. Work is somewhat flexible as needed but the majority of the work will be in-person Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Please note that some required programs, services, trainings, and events occur in early mornings, evenings and/or on weekends.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:   To provide program support and assistance for all NAMI St. Louis programming.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Implements and supports activities for programs including educational classes, support groups, presentations, health fairs, community outreach meetings, etc.
  2. Ending the Silence :
    1. Support the ETS program by presenting to local school districts and youth-serving community organizations in Lead or Young Adult roles as appropriate.
    2. Support coordination of presentations (virtual and/or in person) and maintain accurate records.
    3. Support program audits when assigned.
  3. NAMI Program Support
    1. Attend facilitator trainings for applicable NAMI Programs such as Support Groups and Education Classes.
    2. Facilitate groups and programs as needed.
    3. Spearhead implementation of programs such as NAMI on Campus, communicating with appropriate stakeholders, coordinating with NAMI, and connecting resources.
    4. Deliver Mental Health presentations to companies and organizations throughout the community.
  4. Outreach:
    1. Maintain a close working relationship with Program Coordinators to support the delivery of NAMI St. Louis programming throughout the St. Louis region.
    2. Support and assist in community outreach to local college/universities and organizations to deliver the IOOV program and NAMI On Campus.
    3. Support strategy to expand and grow the programs at local schools, universities and organizations NAMI St. Louis does not currently serve.
    4. Attend community meetings when assigned.
  5. Recruit, support the training and retention of volunteers:
    1. Maintain recruitment strategy and work closely with other Program Specialists, Program Coordinators, and Director of Programs on recruitment of new volunteers (social media, college campuses, etc.).
    2. Conduct program volunteer screenings and guide volunteers through the recruitment process while ensuring up to date information is entered on the volunteer checklist.
    3. Assist and support program trainings (virtual and/or in person) as assigned.
    4. Ensure maintenance of accurate volunteer records including signed volunteer handbook and background screenings as well as annual background checks.
  6. Answer the NAMI St. Louis Helpline and direct callers to community resources.
  7. Review grants pertaining to programs as requested.
  8. Share successes and/or difficult situations with staff in team meetings.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of Programs.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Knowledge of mental health conditions and Missouri’s mental health care delivery system.
  2. Experience working with or serving youth in educational, community or support settings is highly valued.
  3. Knowledge of the programs and services offered by NAMI St. Louis is preferred.
  4. Experience with website management is preferred.
  5. Work or volunteer experience in the nonprofit sector, especially with a small organization.
  6. Self-motivated, ability to work independently and work well with a small team.
  7. Exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  8. Experience with program assistance and implementation possessing creativity, integrity, initiative, patience, enthusiasm and professionalism.
  9. Experience and knowledge, personal or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
  10. Attention to detail, ability to be flexible with tasks as well as effective time management skills while working with competing deadlines.
  11. Strong presentation, training, and public speaking skills.
  12. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  13. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc.
  14. Ability and willingness to travel throughout service area, requiring use of a personal vehicle.
  15. Ability to foster volunteers through recruitment and onboarding process.
  16. Driver's License and proof of insurance required for employment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:   Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, education, psychology, sociology or equivalent work experience.

EXPECTED SALARY RANGE: $42,500-50,000/year
